EHS Splits DH, T-town 1-2 at Tourney

Effingham High School spilt an Apollo Conference doubleheader with Salem Saturday.
In the opener, Preston Walker pitched seven solid innings but the Wildcats scored the only run they needed for the 1-0 victory.
Walker struck out six batters, allowed five hits and two walks. The lone run came in the first inning on an RBI double by Conklin.
"Preston did a great job of pitching," said EHS Coach Chris Fleener. "But we just couldn't get the big hit for him."
In the second contest, Swayde Sanders doubled in the fifth and sixth innings as the Hearts took an 8-5 win over the Wildcats.
Braydon Bone picked up the pitching win, allowing three runs on three hits, one walk and one strikeout.
The game was never in doubt after the fourth as the Hearts scored four runs on two singles. EHS tallied two more in the fifth and then followed it up with two more in the sixth. Michael Woltman had an RBI single in the fifth.
"Today we had some good leadership by our seniors and the rest of the team stepped in and did their part in game two," said Fleener.
EHS is now 14-11 on the season.
The Hearts lost both freshmen/sophomore games, 9-3 and 15-5.

At LaSalle
Teutopolis finished the LaSalle Cavalier Invitational Baseball Tournament with a 1-2 record.
In Saturday action, host LaSalle-Peru edged the Wooden Shoes 1-0 after the Shoes had lost the opener Friday to Joliet West.
The lone run came in the top of the seventh inning. Bobby Wenthe suffered the loss going all seven innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out eight.
T-town had only three hits in the contest, all singles by three different players.
In the final game for the Shoes, T-town trounced Ottawa Marquette 12-1 in five innings behind 15 hits.
T-town took a 3-1 first inning lead and had a five-run third. Reed Hardiek had four singles and drove in two runs. Alex Goldstein added two singles and four RBI while Wenthe had a double and Darren Probst two singles and an RBI.
T-town is now 23-6 on the season.

Flora came calling Saturday and captured a 6-3 win over Brownsotwn/St. Elmo at Bob Page Field.
BSE outhit Flora but the Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the second, tallied two in the next two innings and added on another run in the sixth. BSE finally got on board in the sixth with a run and had two in the seventh.
Bryce Perace was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts.
Landon Feezel had a single and double for BSE while Drake Hall and Dalton Parks had two singles and an RBI each. BSE drops to 13-9.
