Effingham High School split with Paris in an Apollo Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Tigers won the opener 7-3. A. Elmore got the win for Paris allowing three runs over seven innings. He gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out 10.

Paris scored a run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Hearts pulled within 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs. Braydon Bone had an RBI double while Carter Hayes had an RBI double. Michael Woltman had a sacrifice fly.

In the second contest, Effingham claimed a 5-1 victory. Kevin Daugherty got the win for the Hearts, allowing one earned run, three hits, two walks and had six strikeouts. Lane Koenig had an RBI double.


At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony got a lone run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 1-0 victory over Shelbyville Saturday. Kyle Bourgeois picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter.

Neil Williams had a single. The Bulldogs are now 12-9 on the season.

At Centralia

South Central dropped two games in the Centralia Tournament. The Cougars lost to  Waterloo 16-6 in five innings. Kyle Bray had two singles and Tyler Ross a double and an RBI for the Cougars.

In the second contest, the Cougars fell to Centralia 11-6. South Central took a 4-3 lead in the top of the third but Centralia came back with five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Noah Powless had a home run for South Central while Bray had a single and two RBI and Tyus Holmes three singles.

At Clinton

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg finished second in the Clinton Tournament. In the opening contest, Clinton defeated Gibson City/Melvin-Sibley 12-1.

Windsor/Stew-Stras then blasted Walther Lutheran 18-3 behind 15 hits. Vonderheide had two singles, a home run and three RBI while D. Ohnesorge had three singles and four RBI. Helmuth chipped in with two singles and three RBI while Moschenrose had two singles and two RBI.

In the third place contest, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley edged Walther Lutheran 10-9.

In the championship, Clinton beat Windsor/Stew-Stras 11-1. Clinton held a 7-0 lead into the fifth when W/S-S tallied its lone run. Hutchinson had a single and double while Moschenrose added a double and an RBI.

Newton downed Flora 8-1 behind a 10-hit attack. The Eagles held a 3-1 lead going into the seventh then tallied five more runs. Chesnut had three singles and two RBI while Shull had two singles, Reis a single and two RBI and Carr a single and two RBI.

The Cardinals took a 5-1 lead in the fifth and finished out with six in the bottom of the sixth. Cox had a single, three doubles and four RBIs while Britton had three singles and two RBI while Bailey had a home run and three RBI. North Clay is now 16-6-1 on the season.
