Charleston Edges St. Anthony, Area Baseball Roundup

Charleston High School rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh to pull out a 6-5 win over Effingham St. Anthony in baseball action Wednesday.

The Bulldogs had taken a 3-0 first inning lead as Neil Williams led off the inning with a single. Jacob Lorenz followed with a single. With two outs, Brandon Puckett singled and James Kabbes followed with a single.

Charleston came back with two runs in the top of the third but the Bulldogs answered with a run in the bottom of the frame as Eli Dasenbrock had a single and Kabbes picked up his second single.

The lead went to 5-2 in the fifth as St. Anthony tallied another run, this one when Dasenbrock singled and came home on an error.

But Charleston wasn't out of the game yet. Grant Gough singled home the final two runs in a four-run seventh and the Trojans pulled off the upset. Dustin Smith finished with two doubles and three RBI for the Trojans while Gouch had two singles and two RBI. Mason McGahee added two doubles. The Trojans are now 5-12.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg bounced Ramsey to the tune of 16-0 in five innings.

The Blue Devils had a 10-run second inning then tacked on six more runs in the third. The winners had 12 hits in the contest led by Hayden Cole and Jacob Kramer with a single and double each. Cole drove in five runs while Kramer had two RBI. Dylan Ohnesorge had three singles and two RBI and Alex Allen two singles and two RBI.

Christian Vonderheide and Devon Deremiah combined to pitch a no-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Olney claimed a 4-1 win over Newton. The two teams were tied in the top of the sixth but Olney tallied three in the bottom of the frame to pull out the win.

Newton outhit Olney 7-6 as Huston had a single, double and an RBI and Rice a double.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) blasted Sandoval 16-0 in five innings.

North Clay had a nine-run third behind a 10-hit attack and eight errors by Sandoval.

Britton had a single, double and an RBI while Cox had a home run and two RBI and Walker three singles and five RBI for the Cardinals. North Clay is now 11-6-1 on the season.
