EHS Splits DH, BSE Wins Twice

MATTOON -- Effingham and Mattoon split an Apollo Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Green Wave won the opener 1-0, scoring the winning run in the sixth inning. Mattoon's Austin Warrem pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight. Kevin Daugherty suffered the tough-luck loss going six innings, allowing seven hits and striking out five.

Tanner Scott hit an RBI double in the sixth to score the lone run. Tucker also had a double.

Effingham had singles by Braydon Bone and Swayde Sanders.

In the second contest, Preston Walker struck out 12 to pick up the pitching win in nine innings as the Hearts broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the ninth for the 3-1 win.

EHS had only four hits led by Sanders with a triple and Bone with two singles. Brennan Poland had a single and drove in both runs in the ninth.

In freshman/sophomore action, Effingham lost to Mattoon 13-1 and 3-2.

In a game Thursday, Effingham claimed a 7-2 win over Dieterich. Bone had a single and triple. Brennan Poland pitched the victory allowing two hits, no walks and struck out four in four innings.

At Beecher City

Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed a doubleheader victory over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick Saturday.

BSE won the opener 6-0 as Jacob Behrends pitched a four-hitter with one walk and 14 strikeouts. Behrends aided his own cause with a double. Drake Hall had a double and an RBI while Dalton Parks and Noah Flowers had two singles.

In the second game, BSE was a 15-2 winner behind 12 hits. Levi Maxey had two doubles and drove in two runs. Behrends had two singles, a double and an RBI while Parks had two singles and two RBI and Hall two singles and three RBI.

At Windsor

WIndsor-Stewardson-Strasburg downed Robinson 17-7 in six innings Saturday. Windsor/Stew-Stras led 12-3 after three innings. Moschenrose picked up the pitching win going five innings, allowing five hits and striking out three.

Allen had a double and two RBI while Vonderheide had two singles while Kramer had a single, two doubles and six RBI. Ohnesorge chipped in with two singles and two RBI and Bugger had two singles and three RBI.

Cerro Gordo edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 4-3. Cerro Gordo took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Blue Devils came back with three runs in the fourth. However, Cerro Gordo tied in the fifth then scored the winning run in the sixth.

Both teams had seven hits in the contest. Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Jacob Kramer and Nic Hutchinson with two singles each. Alex Allen had a single and drove in two runs.
