Yankees Blank Cubs Behind Tanaka

(Bronx, NY) -- Masahiro Tanaka and Shawn Kelley combined on a three-hitter as the Yankees blanked the Cubs 3-0 in the first of a day-night doubleheader in the Bronx. Tanaka gave up just two hits and a walk while striking out 10 over eight innings to improve to 2-0. Kelley allowed one hit in the ninth before posting his fourth save. Carlos Beltran homered and Dean Anna and Jacoby Ellsbury also drove in runs for New York. Jason Hammel gave up all three runs in seven frames to fall to 2-1 with the loss. Anthony Rizzo had two of Chicago's three hits in defeat. Junior Lake had the other hit for the Cubs.

Michael Pineda and three relievers combined for a six-hit shutout as the Yankees blanked the Cubs 2-0 to sweep the day-night doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. Pineda gave up just four hits and a walk over six innings as he improved to 2-1. Adam Warren closed it out for his first save. Scott Sizemore plated a run and scored on Brett Gardner's RBI-single for the Yanks, who have won four straight. Travis Wood allowed two runs over five-and-two-thirds frames as he fell to 0-2. Masahiro Tanaka and Shawn Kelly combined on a three-hitter as the Yankees blanked the Cubs 3-0 in the opener. Chicago was shut out in both games of a doubleheader for the first time since 1962.


Brewers Cut Down Cardinals Behind Peralta

(Milwaukee, WI) -- Wily Peralta pitched one-run ball into the seventh inning as the Brewers beat the Cardinals 5-1 at Miller Park. Peralta allowed six hits and a walk over six and a third innings to improve to 2-0 with the win. Aramis Ramirez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jonathan Lucroy singled home two runs for Milwaukee, which salvaged the finale of the three-game series. Joe Kelly gave up just an unearned run in four innings, but took the loss.

Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly is dealing with a leg injury that forced him out of yesterday's start against Milwaukee. He laid down a bunt and grabbed his hamstring after getting thrown out at first base to end the fifth inning. Kelly immediately called for the trainer and limped off the field.

The Cardinals are in Washington tonight to open a four-game series with the Nationals. It's the second stop on a three-city, 11-game road trip that ends with four games against the Mets. Adam Wainwright starts tonight for St. Louis, while Washington counters with Taylor Jordan.  


Red Sox Edge White Sox In Marathon

(Chicago, IL) -- Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two-run double in the 14th inning to lift the Red Sox over the White Sox 6-4 at U.S. Cellular Field. Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-4 and scored three times. Clay Buchholz allowed three runs in six innings of work while striking out six. Chris Capuano struck out three in two and a third frames to pick up the win while Burke Badenhop got the save. Alexei Ramirez cracked a two-run homer in the sixth for his only hit of the game. Tyler Flowers had a two-out RBI single in the 11th to extend the game. Leury Garcia took the loss after allowing two runs in just one inning of action.


Cueto Dazzles As Reds Beat Pirates

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Johnny Cueto struck out 12 while firing a three-hit shutout as the Reds blanked the Pirates 4-0 at Great American Ball Park. Cueto did not allow a walk and needed just 107 pitches to pick up his first win of the season. Joey Votto hit a two-run homer and Brayan Pena doubled home a run for Cincinnati, which took two-of-three in the series. Francisco Liriano gave up three runs in seven innings to fall to 0-3 with the loss. Andrew McCutchen doubled for the lone extra-base hit for Pittsburgh. Tony Sanchez and Jordy Mercer singled for the Bucs' other two hits in defeat.


Mets Sweep Diamondbacks Behind Gee

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Dillon Gee tossed seven shutout frames as the Mets beat the Diamondbacks 5-2 to sweep a three-game series at Chase Field. Gee allowed just three hits to earn his first win of the season. Anthony Recker connected for his second homer of the year as the Mets won for the fourth time in five games.  Brandon McCarthy gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings to fall to 0-3 with the loss. Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt broke up the shutout with back-to-back home runs in the ninth off Jose Valverde. The runs were the first for the Snakes since the eighth inning of the series opener.


Teheran, Braves Blank Phillies

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Julio Teheran tossed his first career complete game shutout as the Braves blanked the Phillies 1-0 at Citizens Bank Park. Teheran struck out four while giving up three hits and no walks as he upped his mark to 2-1. Evan Gattis went 4-for-4 with a solo homer in the fourth inning for Atlanta, which improved to 10-and-4 with its fifth straight win. Cliff Lee also went the distance, tossing a career-high 128 pitches with 13 strikeouts, 11 hits and the one run as he slipped to 2-and-2 with the loss. Jimmy Rollins had a hit and a stolen base for the Phils, who will try to avoid the three-game sweep on Thursday.


Nationals Rally Past Marlins

(Miami, FL) -- Zach Walters clubbed a go-ahead solo homer during a three-run eighth inning as the Nationals rallied past the Marlins 6-3 in Miami. Ian Desmond added a two-run single in the eighth for the Nats, who took two-of-three in the series. Jayson Werth hit a three-run homer in the sixth to tie the game at three.  Drew Storen earned the win in relief, while Rafael Soriano closed it out for his third save. Derek Dietrich drilled a three-run homer in the fourth inning for the Fish, who fell to 6-10. Mike Dunn suffered his second loss.


Padres Double Up Rockies

(San Diego, CA) -- Chris Denorfia knocked in two runs to help the Padres beat the Rockies 4-2 from Petco Park. Tommy Medica hit a solo homer for San Diego, which has won three of four. Andrew Cashner allowed one earned run and two total over seven-and-a-third innings for the win. Huston Street locked up his fifth save.  Justin Morneau was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a solo homer for Colorado, which has alternated wins and losses the last 11 games. Jorge De La Rosa allowed three runs in six innings for the loss.


Giants Slip Past Dodgers

(San Francisco, CA) -- Pablo Sandoval's RBI-single in the seventh inning gave the Giants a 2-1 win against the rival Dodgers at AT&T Park in the second of three games.  San Francisco has won both by one-run to move to 10-5. Buster Posey drove in the other run, while reliever Jean Machi earned the win and Sergio Romo locked down is fourth save. Starter Ryan Vogelsong wasn't part of the decision despite tossing six-plus innings of one-run ball. Dee Gordon drove in the only run for the Dodgers, who fell to 9-6. Hanley Ramirez left in the top of the seventh inning after getting hit by a pitch on the left hand. Paul Maholm allowed one run in six innings, and J.P. Howell was handed the loss.


O's Blank Rays

(Baltimore, MD) -- Miguel Gonzalez and two relievers combined on a six-hitter as the Orioles shut out the Rays 3-0 at Camden Yards. Gonzalez struck out six over five innings of three-hit ball for his first win of the season. Zach Britton worked three frames and Tommy Hunter pitched the ninth for his fourth save. Matt Wieters lofted a sac-fly, J.J. Hardy and an RBI ground out and Adam Jones plated a run with an infield single for Baltimore. The O's swept the weather-shortened two-game series. Jake Odorizzi fell to 1-2 with the loss for Tampa Bay. Desmond Jennings had two hits for the Rays in defeat.


Indians Trim Tigers

(Detroit, MI) -- Yan Gomes' two-run triple in the second inning held up as the Indians trimmed the Tigers 3-2 at Comerica Park. Michael Bourn scored the other run on a double play ball in the first inning for Cleveland, which has won two-of-three to even its record at 7-7. Zach McAllister tossed six innings of one-run, four-hit ball for his second win. John Axford closed it out to post his fifth save. Miguel Cabrera plated both runs for the Tigers, who have lost three of their last four. Anibal Sanchez permitted three runs, two earned, in five frames as he fell to 0-1 with the loss.


Mariners' Miscues Give Rangers Win

(Arlington, TX) -- Down to their final out at Globe Life Park, the Rangers took advantage of an error, wild pitch and a walk-off single by Leonys Martin as the Rangers beat the Mariners 3-2. Yu Darvish tossed seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts to grab the no-decision. Pedro Figueroa grabbed the win in relief as the Rangers have won the middle two of this four-game set. Felix Hernandez was dominant in his no-decision, tossing seven-plus innings of one run ball while racking up nine strikeouts. Fernando Rodney took the loss after giving up two runs and a walk in his two-thirds of an inning. Abraham Almonte and Mike Zunino each had two hits and an RBI.


Royals Top Astros In 11

(Houston, TX) -- Fans at Minute Maid Park were awarded with free baseball as Kansas City and Houston needed 11 innings to complete a 6-4 Royals win. The Royals scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning on a solo shot by Mike Moustakas and a fielders choice by Omar Infante. Kansas City pounded out 13 hits in the victory but played sloppy defense with four errors. Danny Duffy picked up the win with two innings in relief while starter Jeremy Guthrie threw six innings, giving up four runs on six hits. Dallas Keuchel pitched six innings of two-run ball, striking out five batters for the Astros in his no-decision outing.  Jason Castro and Marc Krauss both hit two-run dingers while newly promoted George Springer went 1-for-5 to earn his first major league hit. Jerome Williams took the loss for the Astros, giving up two runs through two innings.


Angels Top A's In 12

(Anaheim, CA) -- Chris Iannetta belted a solo homer in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the Angels to a 5-4 win over the Athletics from Angel Stadium.  Albert Pujols was 3-for-5 with an RBI for Los Angeles, which salvaged the three-game series. Mike Trout went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI in the win. Joe Smith picked up the win. Brandon Moss hit a three-run homer for Oakland, which had won four in-a-row. Drew Pomeranz took the loss
