EDWARDSVILLE -- Belmont swept a doubleheader from SIUE Saturday, winning 8-5 and 8-3 to win the Ohio Valley Conference baseball series at Simmons Baseball Complex.

The Cougars are now 9-9 in OVC play and 12-22 overall. Belmont improved to 7-8 in OVC play and 15-20 overall.

The Cougars have now lost three consecutive OVC series, after opening the season with three consecutive series wins.

"We need to focus on getting better. Winning and losing will take care of itself if you focus on the process of what you need to do to get better every day," SIUE Head Coach Tony Stoecklin said. "We lose focus of that. That's going to be our goal next week: focusing on what it takes to get better every day."

In the opener, Effingham High School graduate Chase Green had two singles and an RBI. In the second game, Green had a single and an RBI.

EIU Wins Saturday, Loses Sunday

CHARLESTON -- The Panther baseball team evened the Ohio Valley Conference series with Tennessee Tech Saturday afternoon with a 6-4 victory at Coaches Stadium.

“With the wind we had today, we had to do the little things on offense to score runs,” said Eastern Illinois head coach Jim Schmitz. “We were able to get some bunt singles this afternoon and kept putting runs together when we needed them.”

Tennessee Tech defeated the Eastern Illinois baseball team, 8-3, Sunday afternoon at Coaches Stadium to win the Ohio Valley Conference series between the two schools.

The Panthers drop to 11-23 on the year and 5-10 in OVC play while the Golden Eagles improve to 28-10 overall and 11-7 in conference action.

“It was hard to overcome the big hole in the first inning,” said Panther head coach Jim Schmitz. “We competed the rest of the game, but it’s hard to come from behind and beat a good team in Tennessee Tech.”
