Effingham St. Anthony High School opened the baseball season with a 7-5 loss to Champaign Centennial Tuesday evening.
Centennial opened with a 2-0 first inning lead. The leadoff batter, Perks drew a walk and Lindgren followed with a home run scoring both batters. Grady and Paul got back-to-back singles but the Bulldogs shut the door, not allowing any more runs in the frame.
The Bulldogs came back with a run in the fourth as Bushur drew a walk, stole second and scored to pull within 2-1. Centennial tallied three runs in the top of the fifth on back-to-back doubles, a walk and a single.
St. Anthony came charging back in the bottom of the frame scoring three runs to pull within 5-4. With two outs, Lorenz drew a walk, Williams singled, Bushur drew a walk and Dasenbrock doubled home all three runs.
Centennial then tallied two more runs in the sixth on an error and a single to push ahead 7-4. St. Anthony scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth on a single by Jansen and a single by Lorenz.

At Brownstown
Brownstown/St. Elmo took the early lead but Shelbyville had a nine-run fifth inning anad finished out with three runs in the seventh for a 15-6 victory.
Shelbyville banged out 12 hits in the contest. BSE scored two in the second, three in the fourth and one in the seventh.
Levi Maxey had two singles and two RBI for Brownstown/St. Elmo while Jacob Behrends had a double and drove in two runs. It was the season opener for BSE.
