EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE baseball will open the home season Friday when Eastern Illinois comes to Simmons Complex for a three-game series. The series also marks the opening of the Ohio Valley Conference season for both schools.

The Cougars and Panthers were originally scheduled to play the series in Charleston, Ill., but poor field conditions forced the change of venue to Simmons Complex, which features an Astroturf ® GameDay Grass surface.

Both teams have faced ranked opponents during their respective preseason. Of Eastern Illinois' 12 games this season, 10 have been against ranked teams. The Panthers opened the year with a win over No. 14 Louisiana.

SIUE has wins over New Mexico State and Ohio during the nonconference season.

Friday's opener will feature SIUE right-hander Ryan Daniels vs. Eastern Illinois' righty Matt Borens. Borens leads the OVC with a 0.47 ERA, while Daniels is third in the OVC with a 0.51 ERA. Daniels is third in the OVC with 17 strikeouts, while Borens is fourth with 16 strikeouts.
