Cubs Take Down Brewers

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Javier Baez homered as the Cubs earned a 4-2 win over the Brewers at Maryvale Baseball Park Monday. Eric Jokisch threw three scoreless innings in the win. Meanwhile, Jason Hammel scattered four hits in two scoreless innings in a B Game. The Cubs host the A's today in Mesa.

Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro will be out for the next seven to ten days recovering from a mild hamstring strain. Manager Rick Renteria says second baseman Darwin Barney could see time at short in Castro's absence. Castro was injured Sunday attempting a slide into second base.

Peralta Homers Twice Against Tigers

(Lakeland, FL) -- Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta homered twice Monday against his former team as the Redbirds lost to the Tigers 8-5 in Lakeland.  Right-hander Joe Kelly allowed two runs in the first and totaled two innings of work in the start. St. Louis hosts the Red Sox in Jupiter Wednesday.

White Sox Down Royals

(Glendale, AZ) -- Jose Quintana pitched three innings and allowed two runs in the start as the White Sox beat the Royals 9-7 Monday in Glendale. Andy Wilkins hit a three-run homer for the Pale Hose while Conor Gillaspie added a two-run double. The Sox play the Indians in Goodyear today.
