Ruth L. Shadwell, 102, of Effingham, Illinois passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services, on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.

Ruth was born May 26, 1922, the daughter of Harry Baker and Caroline (Schultz) Baker from Woodbury, Illinois. She married Wesley Shadwell on February 15, 1941, who preceded her in death. Two sons were born to this union - Richard and Kenneth. Ruth retired from Fedders Corporation after 33 years and later worked at the Effingham Senior Center for seven years. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, worked at the FISH Christmas Store and also assisted with Braile for adults. She was a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she belonged to a quilting group for many years. She was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Connie) Shadwell; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth (Pat Braun); brother and sister-in-law, Corby (Laura Knierim) Baker, and sister, Frona Carlson.
