Charles Edwin Oertwig, age 82, of St. Peter, Illinois passed away on February 15, 2025 in Edgewood, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Ryan Meyer will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may go to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice. Charles was born on November 17, 1942 in Marion County, Illinois, the son of Adolph and Bernice (Jasper) Oertwig. Charles served in the U.S. Army PF4 4 (1965 & 1966) serving 10 months in Hawaii and 1 year in Vietnam. He was a retired truck driver. He worked at Rubin’s Trucking for 30 years, and at South Central F.S. for 13 years. He enjoyed anything that had to do with cars, motorcycles, guns and knives. He enjoyed entertaining the neighborhood children, and visiting with anyone that wanted to stop by. He loved making people laugh and joking around. Charles married Sheila Sanders on July 13, 2023 in Vandalia, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Oertwig of St. Peter; stepdaughter, Tracy (Donnie) Rinehart of Champaign; sisters: Janet (Bob) Richardson of Galesburg, and Jo Ann (Brien) Guy of St. Peter; sister-in-law Marsha Oertwig of St. Peter; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Bernice Oertwig and brother, Donald Oertwig.
