Robert Eugene “Bob” Banning, 91, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 9:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, in Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2025, in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL, with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Fourth Street United Methodist Church or the Donor’s Choice.

Mr. Banning was born on August 7, 1933, in Cowden, IL, the son of Henry and Nellie (Fowler) Banning. Bob graduated from Cowden High School in the Class of 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Greenland (1953-1955) during the Korean War. When Bob returned from the service, he married Edith Mae Sanders on December 10, 1955, and began working for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville. When Oliver closed, he went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville, where he was a plumber until his retirement in 1996. Bob then owned and operated a tool rental business “Family Rental”, in Shelbyville. He was a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, Eastern Star and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81.

He is survived by his wife, Edith; sons, Gary (Linda) Banning of Shelbyville, IL, Darrell (Gina) Banning of Shelbyville, IL, and Rick Reedy (Helen) of Bloomington, IL, who was like a son to Bob and Edith; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Drew) Houck, Eric (Jamie) Banning, Jaide (Cortland) Helton and Paige (Jared) Tull all of Shelbyville, IL: and eleven great grandchildren, Cole, Cade, Madison, Stella, Mason, Jameson, Everett, Bella, Ivey, Parker, and Greyson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
