Joanne Margaret Stortzum, 85, of Effingham, Illinois passed away January 31, 2025 at Effingham Rehab & Health Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois with a visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Ryan Meyer will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may go to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Effingham Rehab & Health Center (activities department) or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here.
Joanne was born June 20,1939 in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn and Betty (Neuendorf) Michel. She grew up in Farina, IL and graduated from LaGrove High School in 1957. She married Floyd Graumenz April 5, 1959. Floyd passed September 26, 1985. She married Erv Stortzum September 8,1989 and he passed August 28, 1999.
Joann and Floyd were blessed with three daughters, and she cherished being a full-time homemaker. Joanne enjoyed helping Floyd and her father with farming. She worked at The Farina Locker Service and then 14 years at Martin's IGA. She enjoyed dancing, playing Solo and Pinochle, bingo and working crossword and word search puzzles. She also loved and enjoyed the many family gatherings as they were her pride and joy.
She is survived by daughters: Kim Graumenz of Watson, IL; Lori Shumake (husband Fred) of Edwardsville, IL, and Gina (husband Marion “Bubba) Brown of St. Elmo, IL; nine grandchildren: Joseph and Joel Lucchi, Levi (wife Hannah) Mahon, Logan (wife Jordan) Mahon, Morgan and Lewis Brown; Eric (wife Kelsey) Shumake, Chad Shumake, and Hope (husband Jeffrey) Dunn; five great-granddaughters: Makenna, Aubrey and Jemma Mahon, Luna Miller and Addie Shumake; two great-grandsons: Daniel Mahon and Henry Mahon; sisters: Carolyn Stein, Mary Atchison, and brother-in-law: David Mahon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Betty Michel; first husband, Floyd Graumenz; second husband, Erv Stortzum; sister, Kathleen Mahon, and brother, Steven Michel.
