Phillip B. Niebrugge (78) of Decatur

Phillip B. Niebrugge, 78, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Moweaqua Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, February 6, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham, with military graveside rites.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.

Phillip was born July 26, 1946, in Effingham, the son of Martin and Louise (Bushur) Niebrugge. He married Kathleen M. Ruholl on May 1, 1971.  Phillip was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He was a wonderful person who always put others before himself.  Although he has left this earthly world, he left behind many fond memories full of love.  He will be greatly missed.

Phillip served in the Marines.  He then attended and graduated from Eastern Illinois University.  He worked for Illinois Power, the city of Decatur, and as a CPA, but his favorite occupation was owner of Hooker Glass, where he enjoyed the customers that became friends.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Decatur; sons, Michael (Jennifer) of Decatur, Daniel (Kristin) of Decatur, and Jeffrey (April) of Columbus, IN; daughters, Julie (Troy) Smith of Mt. Zion and Joyce (Richard) Myers of Blue Mound; sixteen grandchildren, Monica (Michael) Hayibor, Brianna (Lane) Walker & Colby Niebrugge, Lucy, Annie, Molly & Josie Niebrugge, Kaitlyn & Ashley Niebrugge, Kylie (Mason) Sutton, Paige Smith, Natalie (Jonathan) Heise, Zachary Smith, Riley, Kaylee & Kayden Myers; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jaydon, Rhett, Presley, Flynn, Severus, Walker and Grace; his siblings, Gene (Janet) Niebrugge, Charlie (Jeannine) Niebrugge, Norma Newman, Bernie Niebrugge, Diane (Bill) Wheat, Theresa (David) Rogers, Marcia (Dean) Fearday, Steve Niebrugge, Joanie Mendenhall, Linda (John) Temple, Mark (Jeanette) Niebrugge, Caroline Boyt, and Curt (Maisa) Niebrugge; brother-in-law Lester Cheadle.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patricia Cheadle and Connie Laver; brothers-in-law, George Newman, Mike Mendenhall, and Joe Boyt Sr.; sisters-in-law, Peggy Niebrugge and Judy Niebrugge.
