Arlene Rose Powell (80) of Greenup

Arlene Rose Powell went to live with her Lord and Savior on January 29, 2025 at the Greenup Nursing Home with her cousin and her minister by her side.
She was born in rural Greenup, Illinois on January 3, 1945, and was delivered by Dr. Lowell Massie. Arlene was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church and a past member of the Royal Neighbors. She also visited the Life Center in Toledo and acted as a caregiver for her mother.
During her lifetime she lived in Jewett, Oil Well, Lerna and Toledo. She worked at the following locations in her younger years: Warehouse Sales, various restaurants, Onionring factory, Douglas Nursing Home, Mattoon Hospital and Sarah Bush Lincoln.
You might have seen her with her little dog which she pushed in a buggy walking uptown in Toledo. She especially loved the Volunteers pronto pups and the Toledo Spring/Fall Festival and to attend the parades. She loved to travel from her armchair, to paint pictures and do crafts. Arlene was a kind soul and always loved her dog. (Her favorite dog Angel is shown with her in her obituary photo.)
Arlene was preceded in death by her father Ed Powell, her mother Irene (Niccum) Powell Wassom, stepfather Orville Wassom and brothers Leroy and Jesse Powell. She is survived by her nieces, nephew and cousins.
Visitation will be at the Open Door Baptist Church in Toledo, IL on Tuesday February 4 that 1 p.m. with the funeral immediately following at 2 p.m. and burial in the Toledo Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is assisting the family.
