Marion O. Schmidt, 86, of Altamont, died at 3:16 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Marcus Manley officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2025 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whoo Hoo Sisterhood, Transitions Hospice, Bethlehem Ladies Aid, or Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Family requests casual attire.
Marion Otto Schmidt was born on Saturday, January 21, 1939 in Altamont to Louis Otto and Gertrude A. (Duckwitz) Schmidt. He married Mary Ellen (McDowell) on June 21, 1958 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was employed as a truck driver at Yellow Freight for 27 years and as a bus driver for the St. Elmo School District for 20 years. Marion was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife of over 66 years; he is survived by; his children, Debra (Delbert) Rippetoe, Batesville, IN Duane ‘Butch’ (Sharon) Schmidt, St. Elmo, Diane (Jerry) Buening, Carlyle, Darren (Felecia) Schmidt, of Sterling, OK, Denice (Chad) Hildebrand, Ramsey; sisters, Janet Hamilton, Altamont and Laverne Brookshire, Altamont; 14 grandchildren; Tim, Allen, Cassie, Dalecia, Hannah, Mike, Matt, Jake, Nick, Whitney, Ashley, Jessica, Erika, and Donovan; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by; his parents and brother, Norbert Schmidt.
