Carol Lynn Hamm, 70, committed her soul to the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Carol released her body in the presence of her devoted daughter, April, and sister, Susan. She entered her eternal rest surrounded by love.
Per Carol’s wishes she will be cremated and private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.
Carol was born on July 11, 1954, in Robinson, IL. She was raised in the Decatur, IL area and spent much of her childhood and early adulthood enjoying the beautiful countryside south of Greenup, IL on a generational family farm. From early childhood forward, Carol had a tenacity and zest for life. As a young adult, Carol enjoyed boating, skiing, and camping. She worked as a CNA early in her life and truly enjoyed caring for her patients. Carol's two greatest passions were teaching others American Sign Language (ASL) and sharing her faith. In her early adulthood she taught ASL at Lake Land Community College and as a senior citizen she shared her passion at the Cumberland County Senior Center. More importantly, Carol loved her Lord Jesus and she adamantly shared the Gospel with those around her. Carol was known to literally give the last of her money to fund ministries and she shared her home and resources selflessly with others.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Hazel Orrell.
She is survived by her sister Susan (Chuck) Whalen of Hidalgo, IL, and her daughters Jamie (Chris) Radake of Herrin, IL, and April (Jon) Burkhardt of Mattoon, IL, and her beloved granddaughter Sophia Burkhardt.
Carol's family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to The American Cancer Society or Cumberland County Senior Center and that her memory be carried through the expression of Christian faith. Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com
