Tommy E. Hoeffliger, 78, Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025 prior to the service at the funeral home. Tommy was born on November 13, 1946, in Effingham, the son of Warren and Deloris (Hirtzel) Hoeffliger. Tommy served his country in the United States Navy from 1966-1969. After Corps School, Tommy began his service as a Corpsman in Long Island, NY. He then went to basic training with Marines before being sent to Vietnam. Shortly after coming home, Tommy married the love of his life, Joyce Walker on May 24, 1969 at Watson Methodist Church. Tommy carried mail in Effingham for 36 years. He also enjoyed power-walking, even after getting home from work. Tommy took pride in his car, keeping it spotless. He had a love for coffee and talk radio and enjoyed conversations on politics. Tommy enjoyed gardening, flowers, and his hummingbirds. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Family was important to Tommy, especially his grandchildren.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Joyce Hoeffliger, daughter, Michelle Bendikas; grandchildren, Ashley Bendikas and Andrew Bendikas; brother, Roger (Carol) Hoeffliger; sister, Donna (Rickey) Solice; brothersin-law, Don Rodewald and Jack Walker; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deana Rodewald; mother-in-law, Erma Plummer; and father-in-law, Bill Walker.
