Peggy Ann Tucker, a cherished matriarch, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Born on April 27, 1933, in Beecher City, Illinois, to Jack and Fleta (Wood) White, Peggy's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service, woven through the years with the threads of family, faith, and community. Peggy's heart found its match when she married Floyd R. Tucker on August 10, 1950, in Cowden. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, which flourished for 69 years until Floyd's passing in February 2020. Together, they raised a family that became her pride and joy.
Peggy is survived by her loving children, Judy (Larry) Tucker-Kuykendall of Bloomington, Cheryl (Jim) Stigers of Cowden, Jack (Diane) Tucker of Cowden, and Robert (Brenda) Tucker of Green Creek. She was the adored grandmother to seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who will miss her warmth and guidance. Peggy's brother, Max (Ruth) White of Effingham, along with several nieces and nephews, also remain to cherish her memory. Before her passing, Peggy was reunited in spirit with her beloved husband Floyd, her parents, and several brothers and sisters. Peggy's commitment to education and nourishment was evident through her work as a cook at the Cowden-Herrick CUSD for many years. She took great pleasure in feeding the bodies and souls of the community's children, ensuring that they were well cared for and ready to learn. Her dedication extended beyond her professional role as she was a devout member of the First Christian Church of Cowden and the Order of the Eastern Star in Beecher City. Peggy was an excellent cook, not only professionally but also for her large family. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in crocheting, tending to her vegetable garden, and engaging in friendly games of cards. Above all, Peggy's greatest passion was her family. The time she spent with her children and grandchildren was her most treasured, filled with lessons, laughter, and love.
Private family services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden, with interment to follow at Mound Cemetery. Memorials in Peggy’s honor may be given to the First Christian Church in Cowden and mailed to 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
