Susan I. Shadwell, 72, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at her home.

No services will be held at this time. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL is assisting the family.

Susan was born on February 5, 1952 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Paul and Genevieve (Rentfrow) Shadwell. Susan was a kind, compassionate, independent, witty woman who was an avid country music fan, traveling extensively throughout the United States to hear her favorite performers’ concerts. Often, she was accompanied by her mom riding shotgun, providing GPS directions from paper maps. There were many famous country music stars who stood in line just to have their picture taken with Susan! For many years, she was president of her art club and developed into quite the talented painter. She kept up with all the local gossip via the Effingham and Teutopolis Newspapers, KJ Country, and of course, the essential Facebook! She went the extra mile by staying in touch with former EHS classmates of 1970, texting and chatting daily with her closest friends. She believed in supporting charities, especially those honoring our veterans. All her father’s WWII memorabilia can be found preserved at the Effingham County Museum. Her hometown always held a special place in her heart, and she will be missed by friends and family alike. (Susan’s life story was lovingly written by Joyce Verdeyen Holste, EHS Class of 1970.)

Susan is survived by her first cousins, Roger Stevenson of Effingham, Terry Stevenson (Sandra) of Effingham, Janice Stevenson of Tyrone, GA, Nancy Manuel Doty of Carbondale, IL, Patty Manuel Luchtefeld (Bob) of Mt. Zion, IL, Edith Faye Greenwood (Jack) Mulkeytown, IL, Donald Blair (Tonya) of Jewett, IL, Christy Shadwell McQueen of Monticello, IL, and Cindy Shadwell Norton of Maroa, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Dale.
