Elverna Tappendorf, 92, of Altamont died at 1:23 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at St. Paul (ELCA) Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Maria Bonine officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul (ELCA) Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s food pantry, Lutheran Care Center, or the donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Elverna Eileen Tappendorf was born on Tuesday, July 5, 1932 in rural St. Elmo to Traugott and Johanna (Buth) Mercier. She married Delbert Harris Tappendorf on June 7, 1953 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2005. She was co-owner of Bargain House Resale Shops for 18 years. She was a member of the WELCA quilting group of Altamont and of St. Paul (ELCA) Lutheran church and served the church in various capacities, including being a member of St. Paul’s Ladies Aid and being head of St. Paul’s food pantry. Elverna volunteered at Lutheran Care Center and for Meals On Wheels.
She is survived by her sons, Lynn (Pat) Tappendorf, St. Elmo and Dwayne Tappendorf, Altamont; daughter, Glenda (Dale) Nelson, Altamont; grandchildren, Chris (Casey) Tappendorf, Brett (Dessa) Tappendorf, Jeremy (Misty) Nelson, Jared (Bethany) Nelson, Jordan (Ann) Nelson and Mallory Tappendorf; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Camdyn, Everley, Brooks, Andrew, Leah, Clara, Conner, Rylan, Kayla, Tanner, Dylan, Grace, Ella, Claire, Carter, Cruz.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by; her brother, Omer Mercier; sisters, Ruby Alwardt and one sister in infancy; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Louise (Lucy) Tappendorf; sister-in-law, Lorraine Mercier; and brothers-in-law, Victor Alwardt and Garland Tappendorf.
