Sheila Kay (Tyner) Shelton, 81, of Effingham, IL, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on October 11, 2024.

Sheila was born at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital on January 29, 1943, to Claude and Ruby (Brockett) Tyner. She married Revis Shelton on June 16, 1962, at First Baptist Church in Effingham. She gave birth to Kim (Andy) Fritz of Saginaw, TX, and David (Kelly) Shelton of Lavon, TX. She was a “big sister” to her special brother, Dan Brockett of Fernandina Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Cheryl (Tyner) Finfrock; niece, Shawn Renee Finfrock; and brothers-in-law Carl Finfrock and Carl Shelton.

Sheila was a loving Grandma to Capt. Martin (Chelsea) Fritz, United States Army, of Fort Worth, TX, Nathan (Heather) Fritz of Newark, TX, Jonathan Fritz of Haslet, TX, Amy Fritz of Deltona, FL, Michael Shelton of Lavon, TX, Megan Shelton of Hurst, TX, and Emily Shelton of Austin, TX. She was also great-grandma to Julia, Andrew, and Marley.

Sheila graduated from Effingham High School in 1961. She was an accomplished church pianist and organist. Sheila and Revis served together in music ministry for fifty years, serving at local churches that included First Baptist Church of Effingham, Watson Baptist Church, First Southern Baptist Church of Mattoon, and New Horizons Church in St. Elmo. In addition to serving local churches, they provided music for revival and camp meeting services throughout central and southern Illinois. Sheila worked for St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Keyboard Music Company, JC Penney, and was a Merle Norman franchisee. Her passions included: family, sewing, quilting, card-making, reading, being a Sunday school teacher, Bible study teacher, and was active in giving away Bibles. She was known for her tenacious, vibrant and joyful spirit, and believed in the biblical teaching to serve those around her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo, IL at a later date. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to New Horizons Church, Christ’s Church in Effingham, IL, the Another Child Foundation or YouVersion Bible Translating.
