Rolland Dean Giles, 82, of Beecher City, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Beecher City Church of Christ with Pastor Sid Hutchison officiating.  Burial will take place in Hubbartt Cemetery in rural Beecher City.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Beecher City Church of Christ.  Memorials may be made in Dean’s honor to Prairie Heart Foundation and may be mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Dean was born December 18, 1941, in Holland Township, the son of Charley and Waneta (Syfert) Giles. He was a graduate of Beecher City High School. Dean married Sandy McElroy June 11, 1960, and together they were blessed with five children, Deana, Diana, Darla, Doug, and Darin.  Dean was a retired carpenter of 50 plus years and a life-long farmer. He loved his family, mushroom hunting, deer hunting, deer camp, playing cards, and attending his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.

He enjoyed Friday night Queen of Hearts. Dean had a strong work ethic and instilled that same work ethic in his children.  

He leaves behind his daughters, Deana (Mike) Dunaway of Cowden, Diana (Steve) Banning of Cowden and Darla (Mike) Hankins of Shumway; sons, Doug (Bridgot) Giles of Teutopolis and Darin (Nicole) Giles of Beecher City; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren with one great-great-grandson due in December; brother, John (Pat) Giles of Beecher City; sister, Janet (Charlie) Siebert of Altamont; sisters-in-law, Nancy Switzer of Cowden, Joyce McElroy of Beecher City and Joanne McElroy of Cowden, and Bobbi Switzer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; special nephew, Terry Allen McElroy of Beecher City and several nieces and nephews.  

Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sandy; grandson, Wyatt Scott Giles; parents, Charley and Waneta Giles; in-laws, Paul and Jessie McElroy, Keith Switzer, Marty Switzer, Donnie McElroy, Terry McElroy, Butch McElroy and Teresa Settle.
