Robert “Bob” L. Devore, 84, of Beecher City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, at the Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Bob's early life was rooted in the close-knit community of Beecher City, where he graduated from high school in 1958. Shortly thereafter, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1967. As a member of Attack Squadron VA-196, he courageously flew from the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) and completed two tours during the Vietnam War. His commitment to his nation was a defining aspect of his character and continued to shape his involvement in veteran's organizations throughout his life.

On February 16, 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Betty Faye Doty, in Pensacola, Florida.  Their enduring partnership was a testament to mutual respect and devotion until her passing on September 28, 2011. Bob's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance. He is survived by four adoring grandchildren: Michelle Kade of Altamont, Jon (Kelsie) Devore of Effingham, Megan Devore (Dain) of Effingham, and Stacy Schuette of Effingham. His nine great-grandchildren, Caitlyn White (Alek), Breanna White, Ronan Kade, Kendal (Matt) Edwards, Braydon Stoneburner, Jacob Stoneburner, Cloe Stoneburner, Avery Devore, and Joey Cox, brought him immeasurable joy and pride. Bob was also blessed to see the birth of five great-great-grandchildren: Preslee, Archie, Evie, Jasper Edwards, and Joshua Stoneburner. Furthermore, he is remembered by his special friend, Evelyn Skinner of Beecher City and his nephew, Robert Warren of Yelm, Washington.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Faye; son, Joseph Devore; daughter, Cynthia Finfrock and grandson, Josh Stoneburner.

Bob's professional life was characterized by a remarkable 40-year career as an oil field pumper.  His dedication to his work was paralleled by his commitment to his fellow veterans. Bob was an active member of the St. Elmo American Legion Post 420, the Brownstown VFW Post 9770, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. His service in these organizations reflected his unwavering support for those who shared the bond of military service.

A graveside service with military honors to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Beecher City Cemetery. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City is assisting the family.
