Chalon Richard Carter, 82, of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 4:20 am Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Paris Community Hospital in Paris Illinois.

Richard was born on May 14, 1942, in Norris City, Illinois the son of Chalon and Minnie Louise (Etienne) Carter. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Kuhlig on August 18, 1979, at the Central Christian Church in Charleston, Illinois, and they shared 45 years of marriage. Richard spent most of his working career working at a switchman for the Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company. Richard was a hard worker, and even in his retirement, he found great pleasure in working outdoors. He was a talented woodsman, devoting countless hours to cutting and splitting firewood. An enthusiast of muscle cars, he delighted in reminiscing about the races of his youth. His love for machinery extended to the annual Charleston Tractor Pulls, which he eagerly attended every year. Above all, Richard cherished his family. His love for them was evident in his every action and his every word. His life was a testament to the enduring power of love and the importance of family.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Kuhlig-Carter of Paris, Illinois; children: Thomas Richard (Susan) Carter of Swansea, Illinois, Myra Kubicek of Cambridge, Ohio, Aaron (Brooklyn) Carter of Paris, Illinois; 8 grandchildren: Thomas Edward Carter, Nicholas Carter, Calen Carter, Anthony Kubicek, Lisa Kubicek, Timothy Kubicek, Mattalyn Carter, and Ryder Carter; a sister: Jeanne Gossett of Norris City, Illinois; 2 nieces: Maleah Duvall, Kiesha (Tom) Simmons.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services to celebrate Richard's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the IOOF Cemetery in Norris City, Illinois with Gene Birch officiating. A short visitation will be held on Thursday at the cemetery from 12:30 to 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paris Health and Rehab Center.
