Albert Lynn Van Dyke, 85 of Louisville passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 11, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

He was born January 12, 1939 on his mother’s birthday at his Grandpa & Grandma McKnelly’s home in rural Louisville, the son of Albert Jacob Van Dyke and Mary Winifred (McKnelly) Van Dyke. He was united in marriage to Judith Elaine Bayler on December 22, 1962. Together they raised three children. Lynn and Judy welcomed thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Judy Van Dyke of Louisville; children, Rev. Dr. Jeffery D. (Sheryl) Van Dyke, Barbara A. (Tracy) Walker, Melanie A. (Andrew) Dailey. Thirteen grandchildren entered the family, bringing tremendous joy to Lynn and Judy, Jacob (Sarah) Van Dyke, Casey (Zach) Van Dyke-Bollman, Jeremiah (Lily) Van Dyke, Jordan Matthew Walker, Katelyn Walker, Sara Beth Walker, Matthew Walker, Jonathan Dailey, Patrick (Kaylee) Dailey, Noah Dailey, Joshua Dailey, Isaac Dailey, and Luke Dailey; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Mary Jane Dodson, Sally (Dale) Rutherford, Lisa (Rodney) Foster, and sister-in-law, Caral Bayler; and several nieces and nephews.

Lynn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry with a Minor in Mathematics from McKendree College and a double Master in Chemistry and Physics from Murray State University. The first two years of his teaching career began at LaGrove High School, Farina, IL. Then, he went on to teach for 28 years at Clay City High School, Clay City, IL where he retired in May of 1994. After his retirement, he taught part-time at North Clay High School. He worked part time for Bayler and Newton Oil Producers and as maintenance supervisor of Epworth United Methodist Camp. Lynn was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, Flora, IL.

Preceding him in death were his parents, mother- and father-in-law, Frank and Beulah Bayler, grandparents, Otto and Cora Van Dyke, and Henry and Lorena McKnelly, brothers-in-law, Roger Runyan, Herb Dodson, and John L. Bayler, and grandson, Jordan Matthew Walker.

Funeral services to celebrate Lynn’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 11:00 am at McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville, IL with Rev. Dr. Jeff Van Dyke officiating. Following the services, interment will be at Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lynn’s memory to either Harmony UM Church, or Love Packages (Bibles for third world countries), Butler, IL.
