Chelsey Dawn Ulrey (31) of Greenup

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our precious girl, Chelsey Dawn Ulrey. Chelsey passed away unexpectedly Thursday September 5, 2024 in the arms of her loving mom.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 11, 2024, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to service time on Wednesday also at the Funeral Chapel. The burial will be at the Butternut Cemetery in rural Martinsville.

Chelsey was born November 11, 1992 in Mattoon, IL to Mike and Bobbie (Robinson) Ulrey. Chelsey was a very special soul who faced many challenges due to her diagnosis of epilepsy, causing her to have uncontrollable Grand Mal seizures starting at just the young age of 2. At the age of 31, Chelsey was diagnosed with ALS. Despite her disabilities, she was a fighter, never letting it hold her back, and doing so with the biggest smile that never left her beautiful face no matter what obstacle/challenge was thrown her way. Chelsey enjoyed being with her family, watching comedies, and loved listening to country music especially any song from her “boyfriend” Toby Keith. She also enjoyed our yearly family vacations to Holiday World, where our fearless girl had us all wrapped around her finger to make sure she had the time of her life, especially her dad who would ride any and every ride his girl wanted. Even if he wasn’t a fan of some of the heights. He got on them with her because it meant the world to him to hear her laugh, see that smile from ear to ear, and because it made her be and feel like a normal child not held back by her diagnosis. Chelsey was an incredibly loving girl who could always make those around smile with her infectious smile, and instantly fall in love with her. We will deeply miss our Chelsey, our angel who enriched and made our lives better with her presence.

Chelsey is survived by her parents Mike and Bobbie Ulrey, brothers Corey and Brandon Ulrey, sister Lindsey (David) Storer, Grandma Irene Weaver, Aunts and Uncles including; Ronda Ulrey, Troy (Amie) Ulrey, Billy Robinson, Cleo (Karen) Robinson, James (Turbo) Owen, Sue McVey, Marilyn Carlen, Michele Ethridge, and James Kimery. Cousins; Jimmy Jim Smith and Tim (Kathy) Smith. As well as several other cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Chelsey was preceded in death by her Papaw and Granny Rondall and Betty Ulrey, Grandpa Harold Dean Robinson, Great-Grandma Pearl Rich, Aunt Betty Kingery, Uncle Ernie Rich, Aunt Gayla McDowell and several great aunts and uncles.
