Donald H. Bushur, 93 of Sigel, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel. Following the Mass, burial with military honors will be held at St. Michael Cemetery. On Monday evening, a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m., with visitation continuing until 7:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be given to the St. Michael School. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.

Don was born on October 14, 1930 in Effingham County, the son of John B. and Rosa (Verdeyen) Bushur. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. On May 7, 1955, Don married Anna Mae Waldhoff.

Don served in various roles at St. Michael Catholic Church, where he was a devoted parishioner. He was a member of the Sigel American Legion, Effingham VFW, and the St. Michael Knights of Columbus. For 18 years, he served on the board of directors at Effingham Equity.

Don was a lifelong dairy farmer who cherished his time on the farm, even until his last days. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family in Sigel and also greatly enjoyed eucharistic adoration at the chapel and prayed the rosary daily .

Don is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna Mae of Sigel; sons, David of Sigel, Alan (Vicki Sartori) of Fenton, MO, and Ted (Claudia) of Doral, FL; daughter, Cindy Bierman of Raymond; brother, Leonard “Lennie” of Effingham; brothers-in-law, Bernie (Mary) Waldhoff of Teutopolis and Larry (Barbara) Waldhoff of Effingham; sisters-in-law, Bertha Bushur of Effingham and Ruth (Gene) Brummer of Dieterich; grandchildren, James Bierman, Kelsey (Marcus) Rutherford, August Bierman, Trina, Trisha, Traci, and Troy Bushur, Lucas and Ryan Bushur; six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Harold; sisters, Hilma (Virgil) Goeckner and Louise (Martin) Niebrugge; brother-in-law, Jim (Anna Mae) Waldhoff; sister-in-law, Rosemary Bushur; son-in-law, Greg Bierman; and his father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Helen Waldhoff.
 
Don’s family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham and the DePaul Hospital in St. Louis for their compassionate care of Don.
