Dean Slack, age 91, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 PM – Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Helia Health Care in Newton, Illinois.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM – Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, Illinois, with Mike Knepper officiating. Military rites to follow. In loving memory of Dean, memorials may be made to the Newton Ministerial Association. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Alfred Dean, better known as “Dean” was born on April 5, 1933, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Alfred Clinton and Jessie (Jackson) Slack. He married Carol Foltz on October 23, 1954, at Central Christian Church in Newton. Carol preceded him in death on March 15, 2021. Dean served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served from March 20, 1953, until his honorable discharge March 18, 1955. Dean was a farmer and truck driver for many years. He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois and the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Dean enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, woodworking, hunting, farming and raising cattle.

Survivors are: Daughters – Jody (Nick) Milliman of Newton, Illinois and Bonny Boyd of Altamont, Illinois Son-in-law – Dale Mahaney of Newton, Illinois Grandchildren – Farrah (Chad) Campbell, Clayton Mahaney, Clint (Jessica) Milliman, Gage (Trista) Milliman, Nichole (Jimmy) Gibson, Heather (Brian) Fuesting, Brandy (Eli) Lock, Lena (Sam) Schafer, Joe (Angie) Stark and Chad Boyd Great Grandchildren – Hoyt, Henry, Wyatt, Madi, Kenzie, Caleb, Bree, Tristyn, Kade, Eli, Jaidyn, Tommy, Ali, Jackson, and Sophia Great-great Grandchild - Hudson Brother – Lawrence (Pat) Slack of Lakeland, Florida.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Pixie Mahaney, grandchildren Joshua Milliman and Jessica Milliman, great grandchild Hardy Milliman, son-in-law Steven Boyd and a brother George Slack.
