Joseph A. Adams, 90, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial at St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, concluding with a 7:00 p.m. rosary. Joe was born on March 6, 1934, in Teutopolis, IL, the Son of Albert and Clara (Rechtiene) Adams. He married Kay R. Weber, the love of his life, on June 22, 1957. Joe and Kay raised three children: Joell (husband, Mike) Worman of Effingham, Greg (wife, Janis) Adams of Sparks, NV, and Pam (husband, Kevin) Trueblood of Mahomet, IL. They are also the proud grandparents of six: Nicholas (wife, Lori) Worman, Benjamin Worman, Edward (wife, Andrea) Worman, Clare Worman, Matthew (wife, Sarah) Trueblood, and Jennifer Trueblood. They have three great-granddaughters, Hope Worman, Nora Kay Worman, and Olivia Trueblood. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Carla Weber of Teutopolis and Betty Adams; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joe graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1952. After high school, he served 3 years in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a BS (1961) and MS (1971) in Business Education. He taught at Teutopolis High School and Lake Land College for many years and after that he worked for various businesses as an accountant and software educator. Joe was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Effingham and St Anthony’s Parish Council. Joe volunteered for the “Cross” and many St. Anthony service ministries. He dearly loved to be with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed taking trips with them or with his friends. Joe enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; great-granddaughter, Isabel Worman; sisters and brothers, Fran (John) Schultz, Marie (Lou) Albright, Adele (Don) Rhodes, Marge (Frank) Wall, Delores (Frank) Taylor, Charles (Mary Ann) Adams, George Adams, Lonnie Adams, and brother-in-law, Kent Weber.
