John F. Soucie (82) of Effingham

John F. Soucie, 82, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham with military rites at a later date. Memorials may be made to a Veteran’s Organization of the donor’s choice. John was born on September 17, 1941 in Kankakee, IL, the son of Victor and Darlene (Betourne) Soucie. He married Joyce Currie on September 1, 1978, and she survives. John was a very proud Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Ticonderoga in 1959. He worked in the Bourbonnais Illinois Police and Fire Departments and Animal Control. John was a Journeyman A machinist and also held the title of Quality Engineer for the auto industry working in Illinois, Michigan and South Carolina. John's passion was rescuing/adopting homeless animals. John was an avid bowler in his early years and also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and woodworking.

John is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Joseph (Abby), Jeffrey (Jeri-Lyn), and James (Karen); daughters, Julie, Jeanne (Scott); brothers, David, Robert (Susan), and James (Barb); sisters, Carol (Charlie), Rae, Mary (Jackson), and Betsy; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet and her husband Dennis; daughter, Jeri Lynn; an infant son, Jay; several brothers-in-law; and a nephew.
