Sammie Lewis Sparks, 93, formerly of Beecher City, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024 at Lakeland Rehabilitation Health Care Center of Effingham.

He was born Nov. 8, 1930 to Samual Ralph and Osea Horn Sparks. He was a graduate of Beecher City High School. Sammie enjoyed 76 years of marriage to Marilyn Joan Fletcher Sparks, marrying on June 4, 1947. She passed away Feb. 8, 2023. He spent most of his working life with oil companies as a pipeliner. He retired in 1987 as a civil supervisor for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company after 10 ½ years in Alaska. He was a lifetime Mason and a member of the Eastern Star. He was a hunter and fisherman and always had his vegetable garden every year.

He is survived by his sons, Samuel Lewis (wife, Mary Jane) of Escondido, CA, Eric Stephen (wife, Kathy) of Foley, AL; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sparks of Washington; brother-in-law, Norman Tutwiler (wife, Mitzi); granddaughter, Leslie Kay Sparks; four grandsons, Rickie Dale (wife, Katie) Sparks, Scott Stephen (wife, Sandy) Sparks, Todd Eric (wife, Kerri) Sparks, and Nathaniel Sparks; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Hamilton Morris and Wesley Howard. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife; sons, Rickie Delane and Mark Douglas; parents; brothers, Charlie, Myron (Bud) and Larry Sparks; sisters, June Tipsword, Lena Rose Musser and Carol Dean Beck.
