Janice Lynn (Thompson) Roberts, 77, passed away in Irving, Texas on Saturday, July 6, 2024, after a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday July 16, 2024, at the Toledo Christian Church. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 am at the church. The burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left by clicking here.

Janice was born in Tuscola, Illinois May 30, 1947, the beloved daughter of Bill and Liz (Kingery) Thompson. Janice was raised on a farm near Neoga. She graduated from

Cumberland High School in 1965 and earned Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Speech Communication and English. Jan was a proud member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She had a long and fulfilling career, touching many lives with her dedication and passion for education.

Jan lived for many years in Southern California, and she especially enjoyed teaching English in Japan. An outgoing and accomplished woman, Janice was crowned Cumberland County Fair Queen in 1964 and Toledo Fall Festival Queen in 1963. She had a beautiful singing voice and a keen eye for a bargain. Her love for travel took her around the world, enriching her life with diverse experiences and cherished memories. 

In 1992, Jan married David (Zeke) Roberts, and they shared a wonderful life together. They were high school and college sweethearts who were able to be reunited years later.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dave, of Coppell, Texas, and her stepdaughter, Bethany (Travis) Grannan, of Lewisville, Texas. Janice was a proud and loving Gammy to her grandsons, Hendrik and Zeke Grannan, always putting her family first.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn sister. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, stepmom, grandmother, daughter, and friend, whose kindness and selflessness touched everyone who knew her. 

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time, as well as the exceptional care from the ICU staff at Medical City Las Colinas. Jan will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her vibrant spirit and unwavering love for her family.
