Louis A. Kaufman, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, Illinois.

Born on July 30, 1938, in Effingham, Illinois, to Carl and Elizabeth (Gerbel) Kaufman. Louis married Maxine Beals, on June 7, 1958, and together they built a family anchored in love and mutual respect.  Louis is survived by his devoted wife of Stewardson; daughter, Judy (John) Carter of Effingham; grandchildren, Michelle (Josh) Cox of Murphysboro, Chris (Jennifer) Pike of Sebring, Florida, and Landan Thompson of Lerna; three great-grandchildren, Aden Wise of Murphysboro, and Jordan and Macie Pike of Mattoon; sister, Carolyn Hackman of Shumway, and brother, Don Kaufman of Sigel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Alan Dale Kaufman, sisters, Dorothy, Shirley, and Mary, and brother, Raymond.

Louis was a man of great skill and integrity.  He spent his career as a welder with Boilermakers Local 363 in Belleville.  Outside of work, Louis was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Perhaps Louis's greatest passion was restoring Cub Cadet mowers, a hobby that showcased his meticulous nature and mechanical prowess. His restored mowers stand as a testament to his patience and attention to detail.  Louis and his wife Maxine also enjoyed vacationing to Branson, Missouri, where they made countless precious memories together.  Louis was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sigel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials may made in Louis’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the donor’s favorite charity.  Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
