Joan H. (Henley) Myers (83) of Altamont

Joan Myers, 84, of Altamont died on Friday, June 28.
Joan H. Myers (nee Henley) was born in Chicago on March 11, 1941. She taught 4th grade at Western Avenue School in Flossmoor, IL 1963-67 and Art & 4th grade at Glenwood School for Boys, Glenwood, IL 1981-1985. She was an active member of Olympia Fields United Methodist Church for 48 years. Joan graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1963 and the Art Institute of Chicago in 1992. After 10 years as an employee of the Art Institute, Joan retired in 2001 and moved to Altamont in September of 2014.
Survived by Alan and Lena Myers of Edgewood, IL and Bryan and Amy Myers of Tulsa, OK, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the institutions that played major roles in her life- Southern Illinois University, Olympia Fields and Altamont United Methodist Churches or the Art Institute of Chicago.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church, Altamont with Jeff Morrison officiating. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here.
