Alice Katherine Rhodes (85) of Effingham

Alice Katherine Rhodes, 85, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Green Creek. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Schools. Alice was born on July 15, 1938 in Douglas Township, the daughter of William and Christine (Niemann) Meyer. She married James L. “Jim” Rhodes on February 16, 1963, and he preceded her in death on December 30, 2020. Alice was a member of St. Anthony Church, known to attend the 9:15 am mass on Sunday’s. She and her husband were well respected owners of Rhodes Insurance Agency for many years. Alice enjoyed gardening, playing cards and talking to her neighbors. She was a devoted grandma who always had time to learn about their day. Alice loved to share memories of her childhood experiences growing up on a farm in Green Creek which included the close relationship she had with her sisters. She took pride in attending the one room schoolhouse “Bull Flat” near Green Creek.

Alice is survived by her children, Bob (Jernice) Rhodes of Effingham, Brad Rhodes of Kirkland, WA, and Lynn (Jon) Kelly of Belmont, NC; grandchildren, Maria Rhodes, Jessica Rhodes (Andrew Finfrock), Mike (Lauren) Rhodes, Allison (Kendle) Baker, Nick Rhodes, Addie Kelly, Morgan Kelly, and Sydney Kelly; great-grandchildren, Pedro, Alejandro, Lorelei, Aubrey, and Coeurin; and sister, Margaret Loudenbach.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and siblings, Annie, Richard, Lefty, George, Rita, and Magdaline.
