Jane Carlisle passed away peacefully at her home in Herrick, Illinois, on July 3, 2024.

Born on January 23, 1940, the daughter of Leland and Inez (Tangies) Burrus, in the same small town she would come to fill with love and laughter, Jane was a beacon of warmth in the community. Her 84 years were marked by devotion to her family, her unwavering spirit, and a joyous embrace of life's simplest pleasures. On September 8, 1960, Jane married Homer Junior Carlisle, and together they embarked on a journey filled with shared dreams.

Junior survives her, as do their two children, Tony (Holly Lucas) Carlisle and Crystal (Jake) Hortenstine; her four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild, all of Herrick.

Jane was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, brother, L. Laverne Burrus and granddaughter, Valerie Hortenstine Sheldon.

Jane's work ethic shone brightly as she worked alongside Homer in their family business, Carlisle Repair. Her dedication to the business was matched only by her involvement in community associations. For 50 years, she was a proud and active member of the Tacusah Chapter #682 Order of the Eastern Star. Her interests reflected her love for the simple joys in life. Jane enjoyed watching cardinals and strolling the streets of Herrick in her golf cart, a familiar and welcome sight to her neighbors. Jane was also a captivating storyteller, with her tales of the old days often the highlight of family gatherings and visits with friends. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated team at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice for their compassionate care provided to Jane in her final days.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Jane Carlisle will be held later. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family. Family and friends are invited to light a candle or share a story by clicking here
