Fr. Albert “Al” Francis Allen, 74 of Springfield, IL, formerly of Hannibal, MO passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024 at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield, IL. The Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki will officiate. The Mass will be concelebrated by the Priests of the Diocese of Springfield, IL. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park at 3:30 PM on Friday, July 5, 2024. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield, IL. The family is being served by the James O’Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, MO.

Fr. Al was born on November 10, 1949 in Hannibal, MO to Albert L. Allen and Frances Luella Williams Allen.

Survivors include four brothers; Darrell Allen of Hannibal, MO, Cecil Allen (Judith) of Hannibal, MO, Mark Allen (Debbie) of Hannibal, MO and Jimmy Allen of Springfield, MO; one sister, Cheryl Faulkner of Des Moines, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fr. Al was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; John Allen and Steven Allen; two sisters; Cathy Allen and Mary Polk; sisters-in-law, Linda Allen, Leah Allen, and Debbie Welch Allen; brother-in-law, Jim Faulkner; aunt, Nora Johnson; two nieces, Teri Johnson, and Shawna Allen; one nephew, Steven Allen; and close friend, Martha Powers.

Fr. Al was currently pastoring the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shumway and St. Mary's Green Creek Parish.

Fr. Al graduated from the Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology in Hales Corners, WI. He was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Springfield, IL on May 26, 2012.

Fr. Al was a Board Certified Optician as well as an Analyst and Programmer with the State of IL and FEMA. 

Fr. Al was very active in Jaycees, Boy Scouts, Exchange Club, Chamber of Commerce, and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member.

Pallbearers will be Mark Allen, Cecil Allen, Darrell Allen, Scott Allen, Marcus Allen, and Amanda Allen Minor.
