Marie was born September 2, 1941 in Jasper County, the daughter of Edward and Emma (Vahling) Zumbahlen. She married Nicholas Michael Dust on October 24, 1959, and together they owned and operated Dust & Son Auto Supplies. Marie missed him immensely since his passing on March 19, 2000.

Throughout her life, Marie found joy in the simple pleasures of life whether she was playing tennis, tending to her yard, or sharing laughter with her sorority and unbridge groups. She cherished her time with family, often with a glass of wine in hand, and a good “one-liner” to add to the conversation.

For many years, Marie escaped the cold winters of Effingham by enjoying the sunshine of Bonita Springs, Florida. She took pride in maintaining a spotless home where everyone always felt welcome. Marie adored her role as a grandmother and cherished every opportunity to babysit her grandchildren. She possessed a musical talent, with a gift of piano playing that never left her.

Marie is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Donna) Dust, Kevin (Jill) Dust, and Chad (Colleen) Dust; daughters, Cynthia Vogel, Christina (David) Lustig, Angela (Brent) Bierman, and Nicole (Scott) Szymonik; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Arbogast, Lynn (Brian) Bunker, Ryan (Jenna) Vogel, Jason (Claire) Vogel, Matt (Holly) Dust, Jessica (Adam) Weber, Mitchell (Lexi Vonderheide) Dust, Jaccob Dust, Charlie Lustig, Michael (Kinsey Koester) Lustig, Claire (Joe Kummer) Lustig, Christopher Lustig, Haley Dust, Jordan (Sara) Amlong, Kelsea Dust, Nicholas “Niko” Dust, Andrew (Ashley) Dust, Danny (Kaitlyn) Dust, Brett (Amanda Waldhoff) Dust, Kaitlyn Dust, Katherine Bierman, Anna Bierman, Nicholas Bierman, Emma Bierman, Jeffrey Szymonik, Cecilia Szymonik, and Elliott Szymonik; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosemary Bergbower, Estella (Richard) Deters, Christine Litzelman, and Irene Correll; and brother, Elmer (Elaine) Zumbahlen; sisters-in-law, Rita Niccum, Diane Henning, Dolores Hoedebecke, Sandy Zumbahlen, and Theresa Zumbahlen.
