Verena E. Allen, 103 of Effingham, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Green Creek. Visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 9:30 am Saturday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to Sacred Heart School.
Verena was born May 9, 1921 in Effingham County, the daughter of Aloysius and Johanna (Renschen) Wendt. She married Morriss Allen on February 3, 1988 and he preceded her in death on January 29, 1996. Verena was a member of Sacred Heart Church since 1937 and a member of the Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women. She loved her faith, family, and friends. Verena had a long career of waitressing in several downtown restaurants and finished at the Ramada Inn as an evening hostess and restaurant manager. She was a remarkable person who touched the lives of many people.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Verena was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Virgil (Vivian) Wendt, infant brother, John, Connie Wendt, Bernie (Pat) Wendt, Audrey (Bob) Walk, Al (Mildred) Wendt, and Mary (Bob) Swingler.
