Jennie Louise Ashley, 47, of Windsor, IL, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, IL. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a law enforcement walk-through taking place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024 prior to the service at the funeral home. Jennie was born on June 21, 1976, in Effingham, IL, to Byron “Bud” and Sarah “Opal” (Cook) Ashley. Jennie attended high school at Dieterich High School, graduating in 1994. Jennie graduated from Olney Central College in Crime Scene Investigation and Criminal Law. She also studied at the University of Arkansas Grantham and was currently enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University with a year left until she completed her master’s program. She had been a long-time employee of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department and was currently working for the Champaign County Sheriff’s Department as a correctional officer. She was loved by her fellow officers and inmates. She was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Jennie loved doting on and spoiling her children and grandchildren. She loved aggravating and teasing her nieces and nephews, sisters, and friends. She was a fierce supporter of law enforcement and proud to follow in the footsteps of her dad by choosing law enforcement as her primary career. She loved music, especially Elvis Presley. She loved baseball and was a Cubs fan. She loved to relentlessly tease Cardinals fans. Jennie was a member of the First Christian Church of Dieterich.

Jennie leaves behind her daughters, Alex Myers (Trey), Morgan Vail and Madison Vail (partner, Tony Pham); grandchildren, Cohen Myers and Quyen Pham; sisters, Kathy Durbin (Steve), Shirley Lewis (Jerry), Berdeena Leturno (Scott), Anna True (Willie), Bobbie Ashley, and Violet Ashley-King; numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; aunts and uncles.
