Raymond Charles Kirchhofer, a cherished family man, respected farmer, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Born on March 5, 1933, in Effingham to Edward and Anna Louise Kirchhofer, Raymond's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his country, and his community. Raymond was a true gentleman of the land, having farmed in the Shumway area his entire life. His connection to the soil and seasons, as well as his hard work and perseverance, were the cornerstones of his fulfilling career. Raymond's love for farming was only matched by his love for his family. He found love with Sandra Farnsworth, and they married on May 20, 1956. Their union was one of joy and partnership until Sandra's untimely passing on December 30, 1967. Despite this profound loss, Raymond's strength and love for his family never wavered.
A proud father, Raymond is survived by his three daughters, Belinda (Russ) Bridges of Stewardson, Sheryl Kirchhofer of Dublin, Ohio, and Rhonda (Dan) Fisher of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; his son, Jeff Kirchhofer of Shumway; and his sister, Grace Boldt of Effingham. His legacy extends to his grandchildren, Sandy (Brad) Hoene of Stewardson, Jared (Shannon) Bridges of Macon, Paul (Amber Conder) Bridges of Stewardson, and Rebecca Fisher of Largo, Florida, as well as his nine greatgrandchildren. The family of Raymond's longtime companion, Linda Scheiber, with whom he shared many happy years also survives him.
Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, his dear wife Sandra, his brothers Walter Kirchhofer and Gene Kirchhofer, his sisters Frieda Ruff and Marie Ciofalo, and his cherished companion Linda Scheiber.
A 1952 graduate of Stew-Stras High School, he was drafted into the United States Army on March 4, 1953. He served honorably in the Korean War as a corporal and tank driver until his discharge on January 7, 1955. His bravery and dedication to duty were a testament to his character and patriotism. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the VA, Visiting Angels, Hospice, and the caring staff at HSHS for their compassion and dedication during Raymond’s final days. His journey was made more comfortable thanks to their tireless efforts.
