Pearl Ann Adams, 86, of Mattoon, formerly of Windsor and Shelbyville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care in Mattoon.
Born on July 31, 1937, in Oakland, she was the daughter of Reverend Willard Edgar and Emma Christena (Boardman) White. Pearl's life was marked by her devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. On January 15, 1956, near Strasburg, Pearl married the love of her life, Leo Dean Adams Sr., and together they built a legacy of love and commitment until his passing on January 15, 2001.
Pearl's nurturing spirit will live on through her children: Chris Crim of Apopka, Florida; Cindy Perry of Strasburg; Frank (Linda) Adams of Shelbyville; Tony (Faye) Adams of Oconee; Lester (Connie) Adams of Mattoon; Barb (Chuck) Bennett of Strasburg; and Joy (Jay) Russell of Mattoon; her 50 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Pearl's life was also blessed with the companionship of her nine siblings: Bert, Charles, Beverly, Karen, Bill, Mike, Linda, Phyllis, and Phillip, along with many nieces and nephews. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she created a home filled with laughter, support, and unconditional love.
Although she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Leo D. Adams Jr., her grandson Keegan Virden, and her son-in-law Randy Crim, her memory will be treasured and kept alive by all who knew her.
A 1955 graduate of Windsor High School, Pearl carried the spirit of her education throughout her life, demonstrating a commitment to learning and growth. Her work ethic was unparalleled, having served as a dedicated cook in several Shelbyville area restaurants for 50 years, retiring in 2012. Her culinary skills, especially her renowned pies, were a source of joy and comfort to many. She found peace and happiness surrounded by those she loved most. Her presence at any gathering was a guarantee of good food, laughter, and heartfelt stories. Pearl's faith was a guiding light in her life, and she was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Strasburg. Her service to her community extended through her involvement with the Ladies of the Moose and the VFW Auxiliary, both in Shelbyville, where she contributed her time and talents to various initiatives and causes.
A celebration to honor the life of Pearl Ann Adams will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Pastor Steve Harder officiating. A time of remembrance and visitation will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., also at Lockart-Green Funeral Home. Pearl will be laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
