Jennifer Lynn Christer, affectionately known as Jen, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024, at the age of 46.

Born on July 11, 1977, in Shelbyville, Illinois, she was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Jen was the cherished daughter of Bradley and Debbie (Rhodes) Christer.

Her family, who meant the world to her, includes her loving mother, Debbie (Jeff) Stephens of Shelbyville; her father, Brad (Sheila) Christer of Pana; her two sons, Blaine and Jett; her siblings, Jeremy (Staci) Christer of Pana, Jamie Christer of Charleston, and Jade Stephens of Taylorville; grandparents, Bill and Janet Stephens along with many treasured aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Jen was preceded in death by her grandparents and other beloved family members, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and one nephew.

Jen was a 1995 graduate of Shelbyville High School and furthered her education at Lake Land College in Mattoon. Jen was a person of many passions and interests, but above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends, living life to the fullest and spreading happiness wherever she went. Jen's love for the ocean was profound where the coastline became a backdrop to many treasured moments. She was an avid swimmer, and the beach was her sanctuary. Jen's warmth and open-hearted nature meant she never knew a stranger, and she was always the first to offer help to anyone in need. Her generosity and kindness will be remembered by many. In addition to her love for the ocean, Jen had a zest for life that was infectious. She enjoyed shopping, exploring new places, and making memories that would last a lifetime. Her vivacious spirit and unwavering optimism left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A private family service will be held at Mound Cemetery in Pana, where Jen will be laid to rest. Memorials may be given to Hour House in Shelbyville, formerly known as CEAD, and mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family. In her memory, we hold close the moments of joy she shared with us, the lessons of compassion she taught us, and the unwavering love she gave us. Jen was loved by many and will be deeply missed, but the light of her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those she touched.
