Charlotte Ann Petty Reeder, 86, of Effingham, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Charlotte was born on May 1, 1938, in Harrisburg, IL, the daughter of Carl G. Petty and Marguerite (Webb) Petty. After Charlotte received her Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana in 1966, she started her teaching career at the University of California in Fresno, California. Then in the late 70s, she went back to school at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL to work on her PhD. She then went to the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands to fill in for a professor on sabbatical but ended up staying for the next 9 years. She always cherished the fond memories she had from her time living in the Caribbean. She loved the sun and the beach and loved not having to bundle up for the cold winter weather. Her taste in music was quite eclectic; she listened to Bob Dylan in college, enjoyed folk music, and then became a big jazz fan. She was an avid reader on a variety of subjects and enjoyed shopping, especially for clothes and things for her home. She loved finding pretty things. Her retirement years were spent shuttling between California and Effingham with her loyal and very beloved dog Ruby.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Diane Reeder of Effingham, IL.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Leslie Anne Miller.
