Dennis John Arthur Meseke, age 94, of Shobonier, Illinois departed from this world at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital with his beloved family by his side. In his final days, Dennis found solace & joy in the company of his cherished family & friends, eagerly anticipating the journey ahead.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shobonier with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Pastor Timothy Landskroener will be officiating. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 5 to 7p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shobonier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Augsburg Cemetery Fund, Lutheran Care Center, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the donor’s choice. Dennis was born on May 27, 1929 in Shobonier, Illinois, the son of George H. & Helena L. (Ehart) Meseke. He married Evelyn I. Schaal on August 1, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shobonier. Dennis served in the United States Army from January 10, 1951 to December 30, 1952. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post#380, and trustee of the St. Peter Fire District. He was employed with FS for 40 years and Wilberton Township clerk and trustee for several years, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. At Immanuel Lutheran Church of Augsburg, he was a steadfast member, holding various offices and contributing his time and energy to the congregation he held dear. Dennis will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His genuine kindness and unwavering spirit will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Meseke; son, Randy Meseke (wife Marsha) of Danvers; daughters, Debby Frailey (husband Richard) of Altamont, Susan Braasch (husband Gary) of Altamont, and Marsha LaRocca (husband Steve) of Springfield; brothers, Rev. Gilbert Meseke of Indiana, and George Meseke of Vandalia; grandchildren, Jonathan Meseke, Sara Stanek (husband Justin), Emily Hummel (husband John), Jennifer Bowles (husband Zach), Justine LaRocca; great-grandchildren, Ashton Hummel, Cameron Hummel, Jillian Hummel, Adam Stanek, and Evelyn Stanek.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lena Meseke; siblings, Ervin, Floyd, Norman, Forrest, and Raymond.
