Leona was born on May 5, 1925, in Altamont, the daughter of the late Frank and Adrenna (Burrow) Kruger. She married Edgar Henry Wolf on July 9, 1946, in Immanuel Lutheran Church. Edgar preceded her in death on March 30, 1994. Leona was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served on various church committees. After graduation from Altamont Community High School in 1943, Leona was employed during the war effort as a typist at the Buick Aviation Plant in Melrose Park, IL. Upon her return to Altamont, she was a telephone operator at the National Trail Telephone Company. Leona later worked beside Edgar for many years as owners of the Western Auto Associate Store in St. Elmo, IL. Edgar and Leona loved exploring the local countryside and looked forward to their annual vacations in Gatlinburg, TN. She was a founding member of the Sewing Club, which after incorporating the club’s husbands, became less about sewing and instead a popular social gathering of friends for many decades. After Edgar’s death, she enjoyed eating out, playing cards or dominoes, and working in her yard. She was proud of her well-manicured landscape and beautiful home, which was always decorated lovely for Christmas. Leona was a strong, proud woman to the very end.
