Robert "Bob" Prosser, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.
Born on February 22, 1952, in Shelbyville, Illinois, Bob was a dedicated lifelong resident of the Mode and Stewardson area, where he cultivated a life of service, love, and community spirit. Bob was the beloved son of Chester and Mary (Swanson) Prosser, who preceded him in death. He found love and companionship with Julie Ferris, and their marriage was blessed with two wonderful children, Matthew and Lindsey, who in turn expanded the family with love and laughter. Bob's legacy continues through his son, Matthew (Whitney) Prosser of Macon, his daughter, Lindsey (Tad) LeFever of Peoria, Arizona, and his adored grandchildren, Cruz, Cora, and Noah (Rebekah) Prosser, and greatgranddaughter, Veronica Prosser. His life was further enriched by his brothers, Virgil (Nancy) Prosser of Angleton, Texas, and Norman Ward of Baird, Texas; his sister, Ruth Anthe of Ottawa; his cherished grand dogs, Belle and Toby; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom survive him.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his enduring sense of duty and commitment to his community. After his military service, he worked at Fedders in Effingham until their closure, and then at Stevens Industries in Teutopolis until his retirement in 2014. His work ethic was matched only by his dedication to various local organizations. As a testament to his community involvement, Bob was an integral member of the Stewardson American Legion, where he held the position of Commander. His commitment to service was further exemplified by his role in the MABAS Division 54 Honor Guard, his nearly 40-year membership in the Stewardson Fire and Ambulance Protection District as a volunteer fireman, department chief, and district president, and his devout membership at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson. His leadership and presence will be deeply missed by all the organizations he so passionately served. Bob's interests were a reflection of his love for his community and family. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. His community involvement was a cornerstone of his life, as he enjoyed assisting his neighbors and contributing to the betterment of his hometown. Bob also found solace and joy in his garden, a hobby that allowed him to nurture life and share its bounty with friends and family.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Bob's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, in the Stewardson American Legion Building with Chaplain Paul Bauer officiating. Bob will be laid to rest in Stewardson Cemetery, where he will receive military honors by the Stewardson American Legion. Friends, family, and those whose lives were touched by Bob are welcome to attend visitation from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, in the Stewardson American Legion Building. Memorials may be made directly to the family “Matthew Prosser or Lindsey LeFever” for the family to decide after services are complete. Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson is assisting the family.
Bob's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit, characterized by dedication, warmth, and generosity, will continue to inspire and guide us. As we bid farewell to a man who embodied the essence of community and family, we remember Bob Prosser not for how he left us, but for how he lived – with honor, love, and a deep commitment to the well-being of others. His memory will be held in the highest regard, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. Family and friends are invited to light a candle or share a story by clicking here.
