Phyllis Anne Swearingen, 85, of Toledo, Illinois passed away at 2:30 am on Friday April 26, 2024, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday May 4, 2024, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo. A memorial visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service Saturday morning at the funeral chapel.

Phyllis was born on July 7,1938 at home in Coles County to Edgar and Marge (Randolph) Croy. She married Robert Swearingen on August 2,1956 in Toledo, IL.

She is survived by her husband, daughters Diane Engel, Roberta (Kenny) Fritts and a son Bobby Swearingen; grandchildren Steven (Chasity) Carr, Amy ( Dannie) Gordon, Kristopher (Selena) Fritts, Kenny Bob (Keiko) Fritts, Krysten (Lance) Harlen, great grandchildren MaKayla Devall, Kenley & Dutton Carr, Katie, and Keegan, Fritts, Ryoga, Taiga, Reina, Shiina and Juna Fritts, Coleigh, Gavin & Logan Harlan, Tyler Gordon and Amanda Cornell.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, sister Judy Roberts and son-in-law Eric Engel.

Phyllis began her working career at Kelly's grocery store as a clerk making 50 cents an hour. She also worked in her mother's clothing store and was a bookkeeper at a gravel pit, but her lifelong job was being a farm wife often working side by side with her husband. She was an amazing cook and loved cooking and baking for her family. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many sporting events.
