David Anthony Schumacher, 73, of Sigel, Illinois, passed away at 3:30 AM Wednesday April 24th, 2024, peacefully at his home.

He was born July 29, 1950, in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Norbert L. and Mariann S. (Zerrusen) Schumacher. David married Linda L. Rowan on December 17th, 1984, in Effingham, Illinois, where she survives. Mr. Schumacher was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer. He loved farming, playing cards and was always very competitive. He was happy “working out the world problems" at the coffee shop at the Depot Restaurant in Neoga. He enjoyed singing at church, or with family and karaoke. He loved following sports, especially the Fighting Illini and the San Francisco Giants. He was known by many and deeply loved by his family. He was the life of every get together. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Sigel, Illinois. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus and a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau. In years past he served on the Shelby County Board.

David is survived by his wife, Linda Schumacher of Sigel, Illinois. His children, Rhea (Monte) Huddlestun of Effingham, Illinois, Matthew (Jody) Schumacher of Sigel, Illinois and Michael Schumacher of Sigel, Illinois; grandchildren, Zach, Morgan, Lena, Abram Vincent and Mya; Siblings, Sr. Clarita Schumacher of Joliet, Illinois, Gene Schumacher of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Phil Schumacher of Jasper, Alabama, Joe Schumacher of Sigel, Illinois, Susan (Greg) Bushur of Effingham, Illinois and Mary Beth (Dennis) Niebrugge of Effingham, Illinois; including many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Spencer Troy Harrell; sister-in-law Juanita Schumacher.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Michael School Building Fund or the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 29, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Sigel, Illinois. Visitation will be on Sunday April 28, 2024, from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Knights Of Columbus Rosary also at the Church. Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery in Sigel, Illinois.
